Frequently asked questions

As this is an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt, we have to follow strict guidelines around what can be served.

We’re able to offer:

  • Glutenfree scones
  • Dairyfree alternatives
  • Decaffeinated tea

Any dietary options must be selected at the time of booking. Unfortunately, we can’t make changes later, and Cornwall Hospice can’t accept responsibility if the wrong option is chosen.

If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, it’s up to you to decide whether it’s safe for you to take part.

For full details, please see the Terms & Conditions.

Seats are allocated on a firstcome, firstserved basis.

If you’re booking as a group, please make sure you book all tickets in one transaction so you can be seated together. We’re unable to make changes to the seating plan once a booking has been completed.

If anyone in your group needs wheelchair access, your whole group will be seated together at one of our wheelchairaccessible tables.

Yes. By buying a ticket, you’re agreeing to take part in the record attempt unless event staff tell you otherwise.

This includes following instructions from staff, stewards and record officials – these are essential to make sure the attempt counts.

There’s no minimum age to attend the event.

However, to be counted towards the world record, every participant (including children) must:

  • Eat their entire portion of scone, jam and cream
  • Drink a cup of English breakfast tea (decaf tea and smaller cups will be available)

We’ll have smaller portion options available to select at checkout for little appetites.

If children or vulnerable people attend, ticket holders are responsible for their supervision and for deciding whether the event is suitable for them.

Yes. To be included in the world record count, you must:

  • Eat your entire portion of scone, jam and cream
  • Drink all of the tea in your cup

Sharing food, leaving anything unfinished, or bringing unauthorised food or drink means you won’t be counted.

If you’d like to sit together, all group tickets must be booked at the same time.

Once a booking is made, we’re unable to adjust seating.

Free parking will be available on site at the Royal Cornwall Showground.

Further details, including public transport information, will be shared by email closer to the event.

You’ll be able to arrive at the Showground from 11:30am, with doors opening from 12:00pm.

To be counted in the world record attempt, you must:

  • Arrive within the arrival window we share before the event
  • Be seated and ready before the attempt starts
  • Remain in place for the full duration of the attempt unless instructed otherwise

Late arrivals may not be able to take part, and in some cases may not be admitted at all. Unfortunately, this would be without refund.

Tickets are sold primarily as charitable fundraising contributions.

You must cancel your booking by 19 August 2026 to be considered for a refund. Any bookings made or cancelled after this date won’t qualify.

Refunds aren’t available if you:

  • Don’t attend
  • Arrive late
  • Don’t follow event instructions

Not attending, arriving late, or failing to follow instructions does not qualify for a refund.

We’ll be joined by an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator on the day of the event who will verify our record attempt and announce whether we’re all record breakers right there and then.

No – tickets must be bought in advance through official channels.

Tickets can’t be resold, used for promotions, or transferred for profit. Anyone not following the rules may be refused entry or asked to leave, without refund.

The Royal Cornwall Showground is wheelchairaccessible and has accessible toilet facilities.

Please note that this will be a busy and noisy event. If you’re booking for someone with sensory sensitivity, we recommend taking this into account.

Further accessibility information for Royal Cornwall Showground events will be shared closer to the day.

Taking part is always your choice. If you have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition, it’s important that you decide whether it’s safe for you to take part. Dietary options must be selected at the time of booking, and only the food provided as part of the attempt can be consumed. If you’re unsure, we recommend carefully reviewing the available options before booking. For full details, please see the Terms & Conditions.

Assistance dogs only are welcome at the venue.

Please bear in mind that this will be a busy, loud environment, and dogs must remain with and under the control of their handler at all times.

You’re welcome to eat and drink before the record attempt begins, but during the official attempt itself, only the food and drink provided by the event can be consumed.

This is essential for the attempt to count. Bringing in or sharing additional food or drink during the attempt would mean you can’t be included in the record.

We also recommend keeping your appetite for the record attempt, as you’ll need to consume the entire portion provided to be counted.

Tickets are sold primarily as charitable fundraising contributions and are a flat fee of £10.00 for participants of all ages.

You won’t be included if you:

  • Don’t finish the full portion of cream tea provided to you
  • Share food or bring extra unauthorised food
  • Ignore instructions or disrupt the process of the event

Decisions made by the organisers and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS officials are final.

Occasionally things outside our control happen, such as severe weather or safety issues.

If the event is cancelled, we may:

  • Transfer your ticket to a new date, or
  • Retain the ticket amount as a charitable donation (where legally allowed)

We’re unable to cover additional costs like travel or accommodation if the event has to be cancelled or postponed.

Yes. Photography and filming will take place for:

  • World record verification
  • Charity fundraising and marketing
  • Media and press coverage

By attending, you’re agreeing that Cornwall Hospice and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ may use images or recordings of you. If you don’t want to be recorded, please don’t attend.

We look after your personal data in line with UK data protection laws and our Privacy Policy.

Information may be shared with trusted partners involved in delivering the event and verifying the world record.
