Trek Kilimanjaro

13/8/2027 00:00:00 @

Conquer the roof of Africa and make every step matter for Cornwall Hospice!

Take on the challenge of a lifetime

Imagine standing on the highest point in Africa, knowing that every step you’ve taken has helped bring comfort, dignity and specialist end-of-life care to people across Cornwall.

Rising 5,895m above the dusty African plains, Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest peak on the African continent. Following the Machame route, which allows for gradual acclimatisation and offers an excellent chance of reaching the summit, you’ll pass through thick forest, open moorland and high scree on your way to Uhuru Peak – the highest point, where huge permanent glaciers flow from the summit far above the plains below. It’s a route that feels truly out of this world.

It’s demanding, yes – long days, freezing temperatures, fatigue and the challenge of altitude. But it’s also unforgettable – and every step you take will help to raise vital funds to support the patients and families who need Cornwall Hospice most.

Why this trek matters

Every year, Cornwall Hospice cares for hundreds of people living with life-limiting illness, and supports the people who love them. That care – the nursing, the compassion, the quiet moments that mean so much – is only possible because of people like you.

Why join #TeamCH?

Taking on an international challenge like this can feel daunting – but with Cornwall Hospice, you’ll never feel alone in it. Here’s what you can expect when you join our team:

A community behind you

You’ll be part of a warm, welcoming group of fellow fundraisers who share your commitment to Cornwall Hospice. Whether you’ve done adventures like this before or this is your first big challenge, there’s a place for you here.

Expert support every step of the way

The trek itself is delivered by Discover Adventure, a specialist events company with over 30 years of experience organising safe, well-run international challenges. Their experienced leaders and on-the-ground team are with you throughout – so you’re in safe hands.

Fundraising guidance from our team

Our friendly fundraising team at Cornwall Hospice is here to help you reach your target. From fundraising ideas and templated communications to personal support and cheerleading, we’ll make it as easy as possible to raise money and celebrate your efforts.

What about fundraising?

We know that committing to a fundraising target can feel a little overwhelming, especially if you haven’t done it before. Please don’t let that put you off – most people are genuinely surprised by how much support they receive once they start sharing their story and why this cause matters to them.

Discover Adventure offer multiple ways to fundraise for your challenge trek, so you can choose the option that works best for you.

Fundraising option: Pay a registration fee and commit to raising a minimum sponsorship amount. Half of that target covers your trip costs – flights, accommodation, guides and logistics – and the other half goes directly to Cornwall Hospice. Any funds you raise above the target come to us in full.

Part-payment option: Pay a contribution towards your trip costs upfront, which reduces your fundraising target. A good middle ground if you’d like to raise money for Cornwall Hospice but want a lower sponsorship goal to work towards.

Full-payment option: Pay your own trip costs in full, with no minimum fundraising target. Anything you raise will come directly to Cornwall Hospice.

From your first enquiry right through to your return home, Cornwall Hospice and Discover Adventure will make sure you feel informed, prepared and supported.

Before you go

You’ll receive full trip information and kit guidance, and our team can help with:

  • A welcome pack and personalised fundraising advice to get you started
  • Ready-to-use templates for emails and social posts
  • Regular tips, ideas and encouragement along the way
  • Help setting up your fundraising page

During the trek

Discover Adventure’s experienced trek leaders will be with your group throughout the challenge, managing safety, logistics and the day-to-day experience so you can focus on the walk — and the view.

When you’re back

We’d love to hear all about it. Many participants find that sharing their experience – at work, on social media or at a local event – gives their fundraising a brilliant final boost. And of course, we’ll be on hand to help you close your fundraising page and celebrate what you’ve achieved.

A once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was extremely hard (especially summit night!) but the team were fantastic, we all bonded with each other and all of the local support crew. An amazing experience. – Rachel
