SUMMARY:David Bennett Memorial Cycle Ride
DESCRIPTION:Truro Cycling Club invite you join a ‘wheel-ey’ great day out on their annual David Bennett Memorial Cycle Ride on Sunday 14th September.\nAs a club they hold an annual memorial ride in honour of their former club chair\, Dave Bennett. The club do this to raise money for 2 charities that were important to Dave and to showcase some of the beautiful routes and scenery that Cornwall has to offer! \nEntry costs for the Memorial Cycle Ride are £15 in advance or £20 on the day\, with the option of a 40km\, 100km or 160km routes to suit all abilities\, and with over 2 months until the event there’s still time to train and challenge yourself to a personal best.  You’ll start from Shortlanesend Village Hall you will have the choice of three routes taking in the best that West Cornwall has to offer. \nNominated Charities \nThe club’s two charities are Centrepoint and Cornwall Hospice. \nCentrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity. They provide nationwide support and secure housing to young people who are homeless and Cornwall Hospice is Cornwalls 24/7 charity providing compassionate and specialised end of life care for patients and their families. \nLast year we managed to raise £1321 for these two excellent causes and we hope that we can raise even more this year. \nMemorial Cycle Ride Routes\nThis years routes for the Memorial Cycle Ride are yet to be confirmed but will be very similar to last years with three options: a 40k\, a 100k and a 160k. The routes will be checked\, risk assessed and ridden soon so please check in with Truro Cycling club for maps and links to the all important GPX files! Please note: the routes are not signposted and they do not provide written route cards. \nProvisions\nYou will be well stocked with multiple cafe options on the Memorial Cycle Ride routes but\, most importantly\, the club will once again be taking over the TRA hall in Mount Hawke. Bring your shrapnel along as they ask for donations in return for homemade baked goods! Last year there was a smorgasbord of brownies\, victoria sponges and more! \nExtra bits\nThe are a small club and so unfortunately do not offer anything along the lines of medals or jerseys but you can go home from this year’s Memorial Cycle Ride at the end of the day knowing that you’ve enjoyed some of the best lanes in the South West and raised funds for two vital causes. \nWant more?\nTruro Cycling Club have a broad range of riders based in Truro that have rides most weekends all year and in the weeknights in the summer. If you’re interested in joining us then head to their website or talk to George at the start and end of the ride. \nSign up to the event by clicking the Sign Up Button on this page and secure your place for a beautiful day of bike riding. \nTo find out about upcoming events in support of Cornwall Hospice\, please visit our website events calendar.

DESCRIPTION:Author and walker Robin Moore invites you to join him in his celebration of 25 years of walking for our charity as he walks The Cornish Pilgrimage over 12 days during September 2025.\nIn honour of Cornwall Hospice\, Robin has created this 200 mile pilgrimage walk as a National Route and Ancient and Modern Discovery Trail for Cornwall and everyone is welcome to join him along his route.  Whether you have an hour\, a day or more\, Robin would love as many people to join him along the way of this incredible walking route he’s created.\nOriginated in 2010\, The Cornish Pilgrimage is largely perceived as an Ancient and Modern Discovery Trail aimed at delving deep into the Cornish culture. Participating in the Pilgrimage each year also enables Robin and those walking to raise awareness and funds for Cornwall Hospice. \nThroughout the entirety of the journey\, there are Cornwall Hospice collections tins in place at most of the stopovers/hostelries where patrons are happy to support this worthy cause. Local support is invaluable but it’s also good to know that the pilgrimage invites the wider public to come along and offer a help in hand too. To the bold adventurer opportunities are boundless. \nThe pilgrimage offers a chance to discover an iconic region while at the same time testing one’s ability to walk long distance. \nThe Cornish Pilgrimage Route\nSetting off on Saturday 6th September 2025 \, Robin will be walking The Cornish Pilgrimage route: \n\nDay 1 – Morwenstow\nDay 2 – Bude\nDay 3 – Tregadillet\nDay 4 – Camelford\nDay 5 – Padstow\nDay 6 – Lanivet\nDay 7 – Pentewan\nDay 8 – Veryan\nDay 9 – Carharrack\nDay 10 – St Ives\nDay 11 – St Michael’s Mount\nDay 12 – Land’s End\n\nHow you can participate in The Cornish Pilgrimage\nWe invite you to join Robin this walk – whether it’s for an hour or two\, a day or more – we’d love you to come on this journey through ancient and modern Cornwall\, seeing our wonderful county from a different perspective.  By making a donation to Robin’s fundraising for Cornwall Hospice you’ll be helping to fund our two hospices to provide end of life care to the people of Cornwall. \nIf you’re keen for a challenge\, why not take on the whole route? \nYou can also obtain The Cornish Pilgrimage Guide and a Passport on Robin’s website.  The Passport enables participants to collect stamps and signatures to validate the pilgrimage walk. \nContact Robin Moore to find out more by emailing Robin or by visiting his website https://www.robin-moore.co.uk/ \n  \nFind out about other upcoming fundraising events in support of Cornwall Hospice on our website events calendar.

We do all the hard work ourselves\, with support from the Park team and a team of very determined volunteers\, and don’t rely on a third party events company. \n\nStallholders\nWe are proud to host over 100 stallholders at this event selling a range of locally produced craft items from jewellery\, clothes and ornaments to pictures\, plants and candles to the all important car memorabilia and autojumble!  We have an incredible offer of artisan food and drink to both take away and enjoy on site as well as a range of fast food\, chips\, burgers\, slushies and churros. \nIf you think  you have something unique to offer and would like to trade at the event please email Jade and let her know what you sell (we try our best not to over saturate the fair with similar stalls so please be specific when tell us what you would like to sell). \n \nVolunteering at our Classic Car Show\nWe can’t put this event on without the generous help of a huge team of volunteers. If you think that you\, or anyone you know\, would be willing and able to help us on the day then please get in touch with Jade. \nIf you are able to give us a couple of hours of your time\, in return we can promise you a fun day out\, free parking for the day (which admits you and everyone in your car into the event!) and when your shift is over you are free to enjoy the show at your leisure! \nVolunteering roles include: car park marshals\, stewarding in the car show field and taking payments in the car park. \n  \n \nThe Charities involved in the Classic Car Show\nThis event supports 2 important local charities: \nCornwall Hospice run the only 2 adult hospices in Cornwall and are almost entirely reliant on donations and fundraising events like this one. £24 will help to fund an hour of nursing care for our patients and their families here in our local community. \nThe Friends of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park are a local charity consisting of like-minded people who love the Park and wish to see it preserved and improved for the enjoyment of all. \n \n  \nTravelling to the Classic Car Show\nPlease respect the one way system put in place on the Peninsula. We work closely with the Local Safety Advisory Group (containing representatives from local emergency services and councils) to put this in place. \nWe understand there were some issues in previous years\, they have been highlighted with the traffic management contractor and measures have been put in place to improve this year. \nPlease bear with us\, we aim to put on a superb event and want to welcome as many of you as possible. But with small roads and limited public transport\, this is sometimes challenging. \n  \nClassic Car Show and Summer Fayre FAQs\nCan I bring my dog? \nYes – well behaved dogs on leads are welcome! We do politely ask dog owners to ensure they clear up after their pet\, please. \nIs the event accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs? \nThe Classic Car Show and Summer Fair takes place in a field\, so please expect bumps and uneven terrain. \nAre there toilets at the event? \nYes\, there are plenty of toilets\, including accessible toilets at the Classic Car Show and Summer Fair. \nCan I park my motorbike in the Car Park? \nYes\, motorbikes are very welcome.  We endeavour to park our friends on motorbikes at the lower end of the car park where it is flatter\, but please understand this event takes place in a field and as such is uneven. \nIs the Classic Car Show and Summer Fair suitable for all ages? \nYes – we have a fun fair for our younger visitors\, as well as a varied entertainment programme to suit all ages. The Classic Car Show has a multitude of entrants including American and Classic cars as well as a other more modern vehicles to suit all tastes. We are also host to over 100 stalls and a car boot section. There really is something for everyone. \nWhat about food and drink? \nWe have a range of caterers serving a manner of delights\, from cakes and treats\, hot and cold drinks galore\, a variety of food options from around the world as well as fast food options. There is even a bar\, for the non-drivers in need of a pint! \nCan I buy my tickets in advance? \nIf you are a stall-holder or car show exhibitor\, yes please! If you are a visitor to the Classic Car Show and Summer Fair please just arrive on the day and pay at the gates\, there is no pre-book option for visitors. \nDo I pay with cash or card? \nBoth options are available. \nCan I camp at the event? \nThis is a one day event\, so there is no on-site camping available.  There are local campsites\, hotels and B&B options in the area if you are coming from further afield and want to stay locally. \nCan I enter my show car on the day? \nPlease keep an eye on our website and social media – we have sold out in recent years so will communicate this on our website and via social media. \nI am a stall-holder – how do I book? \nPlease email Jade to enquire.  Please note\, stall holders MUST book in advance. \nWill the house be open? \nYes!
